Before you book

To film or photograph commercially at the National Theatre, you will need to provide:
• A copy of your public liability insurance (minimum cover of over £5 million)
• A site-specific risk assessment
• Signed hire agreement with the National Theatre
• Full payment in advance of shoot date, including location fee and staffing costs
• Minimum five working days’ notice

Filming on the premises

Visitors are welcome to take photographs of our building for personal use, but please be mindful of others in and around the building. Commercial and student requests must be submitted to the Business Development team with at least five days’ notice prior to the shoot date. Late requests cannot be accommodated. To discuss your request in further detail, please contact filming@nationaltheatre.org.uk

Unauthorised filming or photography for commercial or editorial use is strictly prohibited. Security staff may ask you to stop and delete content if prior written approval hasn’t been granted.

Student photography

We welcome student photographers under the following conditions:

  • One hour maximum shoot time
  • Crew of four or fewer
  • Must request permission five working days in advance
  • No filming without a signed agreement
